In the March edition of Playstation Magazine, a few details regarding the Playstation online service that is to rival the Xbox Live service were unveiled. Using the online service, owners of a PS3 will be able to use its DVR (Digital Video Recorder) capabilities to record television broadcasts, and will also act as a Location Free player for the PSP. This will allow PSP users with broadband to watch movies or listen to music that is streamed from their PS3 to their PSP anywhere in the world.
Also the PS3 will also have an online download service similar to iTunes or Rhapsody which will allow PS3 owners to download high definition videos and music to their PlayStations. The PS3 will also use firmware updates which will add more functionality, much like the PSP.
This spring at E3 2006, we will see one of the biggest showdowns in game console history. Sony vs. Microsoft, PS3 vs. Xbox360, who provides the best of the best. It looks as though Sony will try to outshine Microsoft in every way they can. From online service to media capabilities, Microsoft has yet to answer back and what they plan to do if everything we have heard about PS3 comes true.
