Keynote speech uncovers little on PS3

This morning at the 2006 CES in Las Vegas , Sony Chairman and CEO Howard Stringer discussed Sony's plans for 2006. Near the end of his discussion, SCEA CEO Kaz Hirai joined Stringer to show video footage of previously-seen PS3 titles and a number of new untitled games. There was also footage shown of Factor 5's “ Lair ”, Sony's very own “ Formula 1 ”, and a behind-the-plane shooter.
Hirai also uncovered that over 4,000 PS3 development kits have been shipped to game developers, though no one specific was mentioned. He also stated some already know facts about the PS3's CPU, that the Cell processor would only use seven of its eight cores, and the console would be backwards-compatible with both PS2 and original PlayStation games.
Finally people awaiting news on the PS3 launch date were disillusioned because even though there was no official date announced, Sony hinted at a “ later this year ” release which could mean that Sony may not even meet a Spring launch for Japan. .
