News: Nintendo Revolution

Metriod for Revolution

Metroid Prime 3 Preview
Nintendo Revolution

Okay. It’s quite hard to make judgements on a game based on a trailer, but for now that’s all that is available, apart from the few odd screenshots. Anyway here it goes.
So. Metroid Prime 3. The sequel to the Gamecube’s Metroid Prime 2. The trailer starts with some random Japanese character standing on stage, who I believe to be Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. The trailer starts to play on the twin screens behind him. It involves Metroid landing heavily on a platform standing in the middle of a blue volcanic terrain.  A ship comes up behind Metroid. Then the camera zooms out to show Satoru again. You can just make out some sort of neon explosion going on, on the screens, which I found out later was actually the number 3 covered in a glowing, blue vine. There are also very few screenshots apart from ones taken from the trailer. One that I uncovered was of apparent in-game footage. A first person view from inside Metroid’s helmet. I won’t describe it much as the link to it can be found below. Based on this screenshot, the interface looks quite crowded. Although the effect of making the view look rounded like shape of the helmet is a nice touch. Obviously, the trailer (and even maybe the screenshot) is not in game footage. Metroid Prime 3 marks the debut of Nintendo's action adventure series Metroid on the Revolution console. I did however manage to get my hands on some other information. Retro acknowledged that Metroid Prime 3 would bring the trilogy to an end. "The plot of Prime 3 is about closure, told against the backdrop of an epic struggle," Also the action will take place through a 1st person view, through Samus’s. According to the studio, Aran will this time battle Metroid enemies, and other completely new threats. The game will also take advantage of the revolution’s new and unique controller. Metroid Prime 3 is set for to hit Revolution sometime in 2006. Keep checking back to find out more as it develops.
